When we first came together, we conceived of a collective that would work to counter-narratives that viewed our home and communities in a derogatory way. We made space for voices to tell their stories about our home. Most importantly we wanted to stand up against walls, both metaphorically and physically that harm our communities, our families, and ourselves. And now we must stand up against the current loss over the fundamental right we had to make decisions over our own bodies. We want to reaffirm our commitment to do what we can to continue this work and stand with those who are also working for a better world. We want to assert our resolve and support each other’s efforts. It seems we all still stand to lose more rights that many before us fought for. It is history repeating. But also, being made as it is being unmade. An undertaking that took years of think tanks well-funded to support the construction and perpetuation of a narrative that placed many of us on the defensive. That made it difficult to create a narrative that normalized decisions over our own bodies or whom we loved with our own bodies. It is time to take charge of the narrative.
We are open to continuing this conversation and finding ways to challenge hurtful narratives in order to effect meaningful change through collaborations, presentations, panels, roundtables, platicas, and workshops.
