Resistencia en la frontera: Poets Against Border Walls Reading

Poets Against Walls - Yerberia Cultura

No Border Walls Poetry Reading:

With the US Senate reconvening in early September to discuss funding for more border walls in the Rio Grande Valley and along the borderlands, and with the DACA program under threat of removal and SB4 soon becoming state law, #PoetsAgainstWalls invites the public to "Resistencia en la frontera: Poets Against Border Walls Reading" on Wednesday, August 30th at Yerberia Cultura in McAllen, TX. Doors open at 6:30pm and the reading starts at 7pm.

Valley poets and writers will share their resistance poems/writings that speak to the importance of our home and our rights and why they must be protected.

The event will be livestreamed on Facebook to voice and document our opposition to border walls and the hateful rhetoric that accompanies talk of wall building, our borderlands, and clearly related issues.

#PoetsAgainstWalls aims to give Valley voices a platform to "do work that matters—vale la pena” (Gloria Anzaldúa). In addition to live readings, we distribute video recordings of Valley poets/writers on our YouTube channel to further document our existence here in the borderlands, and to document our resistance--through poetry, testimonio, and the spoken word--to hateful policies and rhetoric.
